It is not on Netflix yet, but right now, you do not even need a subscription to whatever to see all of Season 9 of The Walking Dead for free. AMC is currently streaming the whole thing, all 16 episodes, on its site for free. The one thing you are going to have to deal with are advertising breaks, but those are still shorter than they would be if you were watching it on real TV.
AMC is probably doing so to generate interest in the upcoming season 10 of this series, in addition to strengthening the idea that The Walking Dead warrants its own cinematic universe, which is what it is currently building between its existing two shows, TWD and Fear the Walking Dead, An upcoming third series, which it is now starting to tease, and a Rick Grimes movie trilogy, the first of which at least will be in actual movie theaters.
This is a good move from AMC also, season 9 was extremely good, and did not deserve to be pulling in string low amounts when it had been such a marked improvement from the past couple of seasons before it.
Much of the shift is due to the coming of new showrunner, Angela Kang, that has proven to be something of a savior for Walking Dead Lovers who thought the series’ quality decline was permanent. Kang had the surprisingly tough task of dealing with poor decisions made before her tenure, specifically (spoilers) Carl Grimes being killed off in year 8, and also the departure of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) only four episodes into the season.
Kang has done absolute wonders with year 9, that has generated a Number of my favourite episodes of all time such as Scars and The Calm Before. She has redeemed characters like Daryl, that have appeared lost for a long time now. She has done great work introducing the brand new, terrifying Whisperer villains, Alpha and Beta. And by”she”, I really do mean the whole group, but it is all under her direction today, and also the gap between seasons 9 and seasons 7-8 are stark.
I highly suggest you take Advantage of this free offer to see all of season 9 before the seasons 10 arrives at October. I think you have a month to watch them for free before they go back behind an AMC Premiere wall or whatever it may be.
I can’t really say the same advocating you catch up on season 5 of Stress the Walking Dead, like I don’t think that it’s free and it’s also…not quite great. The next half of Stress yields in just over a week after a short while off the air, having to finish up until TWD arrives. And this third, teen-centric spin-off arrives spsprings020. Wild times for The Walking Dead, almost a decade after. And this is not even considering all of the mad comic news about its sudden finale.
