The Magic Behind Disney’s Space-Age Watering Hole

The Star Wars series has some of locations in Film history In the dark Death Star into the amazing white ice planet of Hoth. But for many fans, among its most-memorable backdrops is that the dank and gloomy cantina which is the site of skirmishes with alien scoundrels. Mixologist Janice Kleyla and her staff have employed every trick in their spell books to bring it to life at Disneyland in California.

Considering that Star Wars:

Galaxy’s Edge opened in the playground in May Popular attractions has become the alien alehouse that’s known as Oga’s Cantina. Lines of guests waiting to get in snake around the outside of this construction which only looks like an ancient mud hut in the outside.

The queue isn’t formed from guests that Have Opted to visit on The spur of the moment but individuals who have reserved in advance. Such is the cantina’s popularity, reservations are essential to get through the doorway and guests may make them up to 14 days beforehand.

It isn’t an immediate replica of its counterpart in the silver screen but nevertheless Looks much like a menagerie than the usual bar. A robotic DJ plays techno songs and animatronic animals sit artificially crafted cabinets above the drinks to make it seem as they are producing the liquids below.

Loose wires hang from the machines and the bare plaster walls are pocked with craters from the blaster fire that’s supposed to have taken place. Every detail has been thought of.

To catch guests attention, concealed speakers and a version of out play The cantina’s thumping music. Inside, the lights periodically dim as all of the gear will have overloaded the generator that only springs back to life after the bar man gives it a good encounter.

The Actual stars are the drinks as they don’t just taste spellbinding, they Look it. There is good reason for this.

As a family-friendly Place, kids are welcome at the cantina and it Serves non-alcoholic drinks as well as ones with liquor.

Although each guest is only permitted two drinks, they’re somewhat more of a spectacle than a commodity as is the case in most bars. Some are served in tumblers that appear to be hollowed-out monster teeth. Among the psychedelically coloured cocktails bubbles onto its own, whilst others have sugary bones and also oddly shaped snacks sitting atop them.

Kleyla’s Disney travel started in 2008 using the Disney College Program at which She worked in both merchandise and attractions. She subsequently moved to food and drink operations and at 2016 combined the Food and Beverage Concept Development Team as a mixologist.

Kleyla and her fellow mixologists would be the brains behind the exotic Concoctions at Galaxy’s Edge such as’Blue Milk’ that was first seen onscreen in Star Wars in 1977 but hasn’t been sold until now. It’s really a mix of plant-based milks and fruit tastes which Kleyla and her staff had the enviable task of producing long until it reached the public as well as Disneyland’s staff that are called Cast Members due to the role they perform in a themed environment.

Our staff works on new concepts years before the Cast Members and guests get To see or taste the finished product. Seeing the Cast Members  and guests’ reactions when visiting our restaurants for the first time and having to attempt what we have been working for so long is very exciting for us.

Kleyla adds that the true magic comes from experimenting.

The most fun is Being able to play with new ingredients to create innovative beverages which are showcased in our restaurants across property and also working day-to-day with our Cast Members to deliver these great products.

I spend much of the time working on new Disney concepts with Various partners from the company. I have various responsibilities for each new theory including recipe creation, menu layout, and Cast Member training” It does not just require a good sense of taste.

I have found that attention to detail, flexibility to change, willingness To find out, and a passion for great food and beverage have functioned well,” states Kleyla. I love being able to make new experiences for our Guests which are fully immersive and also make their vacation truly memorable.

Here is the key difference between her occupation and that of all other mixologists. In Disney parks that the end result does not just have to taste and look good, it has to help tell a story to guests and Kleyla says this is the way she can inspire others.

I like the storytelling behind our new notions and being able to show our Cast Members and guests the final products that they see in our parks and resorts every day. It’s so rewarding.

Every new notion my team functions on gives us different challenges and new Opportunities to try something innovative. As a team, we work with unique Storylines and topics for every original concept we produce, giving us a chance To find out something and experimentation . The cantina reveals what’s possible when it All comes and it sets a very high bar.
